Captivating His Wealthy Heart: Ex-Wife Returns

Chapter 2

Having been married for two years, in Fred's impression, Juliet has always seemed gentle and considerate, completely unlike how she is now, so assertive and demanding.

Just as he was about to speak, he heard her say, "Of course, I’ll split my income with you, forty-sixty, I won't let you suffer any loss."

Fred, "..."

She's an ordinary office worker, who doesn't earn in a year what he makes in an hour.

Of course, that's not the point.

The point is, how did he never notice before how much she loves money?

Fred inhales a breath, "Are you serious?"

Juliet looks up at him, "What else?"

Fred, "…"

By cutting him in for forty percent of her earnings, had she gone mad desiring money?

His initial plan was to split some properties and partial cash. All totaled up on the divorce agreement, it would only be tens of millions.

Seeing his reluctance, Juliet tossed the divorce agreement on the coffee table.

“If you think it's unacceptable, I won't push you. But next time I see your parents and grandfather, I might tell them about your emotional infidelity during our marriage.”

"Are you sure?" Fred's face darkened.

He had never seen such a side of her. It seems her past gentleness and understanding were all an act.

"You can try." Juliet would not compromise.

She knew that Fred hated being threatened, but didn't he do something she despised, that was infidelity in marriage?

Hurt each other, who would be more afraid?

Fred stared at her for a good while, then suddenly laughed coldly, "Fine, I will give you what you want, but if you try any tricks, don't blame me for being rude."

"Is Mr. Edward threatening me?" Juliet leaned on the sofa, looking somewhat languid.

Her relaxation and composure were completely beyond his expectations.

He had never seen her like this.

"No." Fred's tone became increasingly cold, "I agree to all your conditions, obediently follow me to divorce on Monday."

"Is Mr. Edward in a hurry?" Juliet's corners of her mouth floated a light smile, "Then agree to one more condition."

Fred was on the verge of losing his temper, "Speak."

"Accompany me shopping tomorrow," Juliet ignored his ugly face and said gently, "After shopping, I'll go with you to the old house and propose the divorce to Grandpa and your parents."

"The reason for the divorce is, I don't like you. It has nothing to do with you."

This was the best possible reason.

Fred agreed in one gulp, "Fine."

The divorce agreement was personally witnessed by Fred.

Juliet had signed it.

He picked up what was his, uttering directly, "I'm not coming home tonight. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning at nine."

Without waiting for Juliet's response, he strode towards the door, his long legs moving swiftly.

He wanted to be out of here as soon as possible.

Before proposing the divorce, he had anticipated Juliet's reactions. She might be angry or make a scene, but he hadn't expected her to be so calm.

And she even boldly demanded a share of his property.

She was acting like she couldn't wait to divorce him and split his wealth.

Juliet kept silent, watching him walk to the door, change his shoes, and leave.

There was no need to ask who he would go see when he was not coming back.

Half a year ago, when she learned that Fred had contacted Elizabeth Ryan again, she proposed a divorce, choosing to let them be.

But Edward Fred refused.

The reason was that he needed her to deal with the Edward family elders before Elizabeth Ryan returned.

This man was truly despicable.

Where did he get the confidence that she would willingly help him hide his extramarital affairs from the Edward family elders?

Despite being mentally prepared for the divorce, she felt a sense of apprehension upon hearing him propose it.

Juliet heaved a deep sigh and reached for her phone. She opened Telegram and looked for a contact named "Little Sturgeon."

She hasn't been in touch with him in two years, but there is no psychological burden in calling him up again.

"Help me check if the Edward Group is facing any imminent bankruptcy or similar business issues lately, or if Fred Edward himself has contracted some terminal illness."

As soon as the message was sent out, there was an immediate response.

Little Sturgeon: "{Surprised Emoticon}!!!!!"

Little Sturgeon: "Big sister, are you finally alive?"

Little Sturgeon: "Oh my God, my idol is finally back!"

Little Sturgeon: "Big sister, where have you been these past two years? Why haven't there been any news?"

Little Sturgeon: "If you don't show up again, we'll have to put up missing person notices."

Juliet, "...."

She didn't elaborate, "Stop the chatter, just look it up."

Little Sturgeon: "As you command!"

Half an hour later, there's a response.

Little Sturgeon: "No bankruptcy, no terminal illness."

Little Sturgeon: "Big sister, why are you checking all this?"

Little Sturgeon: "Did you set your eyes on him?"

Little Sturgeon: [Fred Edward is handsome and wealthy. You two match pretty well. If you truly fancy him, I will help you woo him!]

Juliet inhales: [You are the one who matches a dog.]

After sending this message, she immediately locked her phone.

Previously, she thought if Fred was pretending to cause a fuss and demand a divorce because the company was in trouble or he had a terminal illness, she could forgive and forget.

But now it seemed, he was just a typical jerk.

She'd be better off without such a man.

Juliet pondered for a moment, picked up the divorce agreement lying on the coffee table, picked up a cup of water, and went straight upstairs.

Before going to bed, she deliberately muted her phone and had a dreamless night.

When she woke up the next morning and checked her phone, there were 45 missed calls and more than 99 Telegram messages.

Juliet, "......"

Even without much thought, she could guess how George had spread the news of her 'resurrection' far and wide last night.

She was just about to open Telegram to check her messages when a call came in.

The caller ID showed: Jerk Dad.

Due to her mother's issue, she chose to leave New York and moved to Florida to clear her mind.

In these two years, she never contacted him and he also tacitly never took the initiative to contact her.

Thinking it over, she still slid her finger across the screen to answer the call.

"Hello." Her tone was extremely indifferent.

Yet, the other end of the phone was quiet for a long while. She heard not a peep.

If he wasn’t speaking, then she didn’t have the patience to wait. "If you won't speak, I’ll hang up.”

“Little Pumpkin.”

She was just about to hang up when a slightly hoarse voice came over from the other side.

Just the two simple words made her feel as though ages had passed.

"What do you want?" Her tone was still cold.

“I heard from Young George that you are looking into Edward Fred. Is there anything you need Dad's help with?" The middle-aged man’s voice carried a trace of guilt.

“No need.” Juliet didn’t want to get too involved with him.

Mr Wood was silent for a considerable while before cautiously asking, “So what is your relationship with him?”

“A husband and wife relationship, in the process of divorce.”

Diana's father, “!!!”

That single statement struck Mr Wood like a bolt out of the blue.

Divorce?

Marital relationship?

“Little Pumpkin…”

“If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up.” Juliet is rather impatient.

“Wait!”

Eric's father tries to stop him, but he doesn't know what to say.

The atmosphere becomes a bit weird.

After a long while, he carefully asks, “So, when are you coming back home?”

“She’s not staying at home,” Mr Wood adds in a hurry, “Your mother’s room is untouched.”

“I’ll see,” Juliet responds indifferently.

There’s silence on the other end, so Mr Wood uses all his wits to come up with a new topic.

“You've been gone for two years. Diana and I are very worried about you. If your mom was still here…”

“Beep beep beep—”

Juliet hangs up the phone without hesitation.

If Mom was still here?

He has no right to say this. He doesn't even have the right to mention her.
