"Break up?"
"Yes, break up."
Sienna places her palms together in front of her abdomen, calmly looking at the handsome man behind the desk who has finally put down his document. Her thin lips subtly tremble, almost imperceptibly.
Noah Williams glances up at her, his expression unchanged, as if she was merely discussing the weather.
He speaks calmly, "Reason."
Sienna lowers her gaze, her eyelashes casting a faint shadow on her fair cheeks, hiding the emotion in her eyes. "I'm tired, and I want to leave."
Noah’s deep gaze locks onto her quiet face, his tone unquestioning, "The Williams family has approached you, haven't they?"
Sienna remains silent. Noah rubs his forehead, a trace of helplessness showing as he pulls out a checkbook from the drawer, signs one, and hands it to her. He stands and walks to her, softening his tone, "Take some time off tomorrow to unwind. I'll handle things with the Williams family."
As expected, this man assumes she's throwing a tantrum, or perhaps using retreat as a tactic to advance!
Sienna bows her head in silence, reaching for the check only when Noah's patience seems to be wearing thin. She replies lightly, "Alright."
Noah scrutinizes her expression, abruptly reaching out with a slender finger to lift her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. As Sienna looks into his deep, obscure eyes, she feels utterly exposed. Her fingertips dig into her palm as she forces herself to maintain her usual docile smile.
Indeed, Noah doesn’t detect anything amiss on her face, so he withdraws his hand, pausing momentarily before softly advising, "Don't overthink."
Sienna smiles slightly, replying just as she did before, "Alright."
What else could she think? After learning that he was about to be engaged to the heiress of a prestigious family, what right did she, as a mere secret lover, have to overthink?
Suppressing the heavy self-mockery rising in her eyes, she stuffs the check into her pocket and gracefully rises from her seat to leave the study.
Noah does not detect the unusual look in her eyes, watching her turn and depart until the door of the study closes. Only then does he pull back his deep gaze and return to his desk to continue dealing with official documents.
Once the door is closed, the smile on Sienna's face instantly faded like a receding tide. She tightly grasps the check in her pocket, her face filled with confusion, bitterness, and pain.
She gently touched her flat stomach, the heart-wrenching pain in her eyes gradually replaced with resolution. She took a deep breath, stands upright, and walked towards the bedroom. She pulled out her suitcase that was prepared beforehand, quietly and effortlessly descended the stairs. After placing the keys on the living room coffee table, she took a long, deep look at the closed study door, turns her head, and without looking back walks out of the villa she had lived in for three years.
Once she left the villa, she got into a taxi that had been waiting for a while, and calmly told the driver her destination, "Airport!"
As the taxi rolled to the street, she reached out for her phone, dialed a number, and before the other side could respond, she calmly said, "Miss Williams, I will leave the country in an hour. I hope you will keep your promise."
Hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, she sneered slightly, didn't say anything more, and hung up the phone. She took out her SIM card, snapped it into two, and threw it out the car window.
Looking out at the passing scenery, scenes from past years flashed across her mind.
At her parents' funeral, her brother, Miles, was pursued by loan sharks. In order to save her brother, she mortgaged the house that held her most cherished memories at the grave of their parents. To support herself, she worked multiple part-time jobs from dawn to dusk, and the money that she painstakingly saved was stolen by Miles, who was deep in gambling debt.
To repay the insurmountable debt, Miles tricked her into a blind date with a lecherous old man as old as their father at a luxury hotel. Just when she nearly fell into despair after being humiliated by the old man, Noah appeared like a heavenly savior and rescued her.
He helped her, repaid Miles's debts for her, and sent troublemaker Miles abroad. He provided her with a decent and stable job, allowing her to live a normal life.
Yet, she became his mistress, hidden from the world. She loved him, but she knew that all he had for her were physical needs.
Just like potlines in movies and novels, her existence was discovered by the Williams family. She was threatened and ordered to leave, she insisted that only he could make her leave. Soon after, news of Noah soon to be engaged to a lady of noble background was known to all. She awaited his explanation, but all she received was a check...
She should have left long ago, right? The expectation hidden in her heart was nothing more than a fantasy after all.
She retracted her gaze, lowered her head and covered her stomach lightly with her palm, a gentle look overflowed from her eyes... a bond of blood ties, filling her empty heart gradually.
Fortunately, she wouldn't be alone anymore, thankfully someone would accompany her through it!
A week later. Williams Corporation Building.
In the austere office, Barry glanced at the emotionless Noah, swallowed, and cautiously said, "Boss, there's still no news of Miss Sienna, it seems like someone deliberately erased traces of her whereabouts."
Noah gave him a placid look, his tone indifferent, "Withdraw the search party, no need to look for her anymore."
Barry was momentarily stunned, but didn't inquire further, closing his notebook. "Understood."
Noah swiveled his leather chair and squinted, looking down at the bustling city beneath him through the impeccably clean floor-to-ceiling window. An indescribable cold edge radiated from his eyes, along with a trace of simmering rage and... profound pain.
Sienna, if you could completely disappear, then never appear before me again!
