In the top suite of the International Hotel.
"Vanessa, just sign this divorce agreement. Eileen is your own sister, you can't just watch her belly grow bigger each day and listen to other people's gossip!" The woman speaking was Vanessa's biological mother, Veronica, who was decked out in gold and silver, sitting across from her.
The woman next to Veronica, cradling her swollen belly with a pitiful expression, was Eileen, Vanessa's half-sister from the same mother but a different father. It was said that the fetus in her belly was her husband's, Terry.
Stirring the smiling face latte in her cup, Vanessa's lips curled up in a smile.
Terry was a typical playboy in Harviell, with a fortune worth billions. Rumors suggested that he was single, but in reality, he has been Vanessa's secret husband for three years.
He was a high branch that all the women in the city wanted to climb, a perfect man that the socialites flocked to.
Eileen wanted to marry him, but this behavior was too off putting, climbing into the bed of her own brother-in-law and unabashedly asking her sister to step aside was perhaps unprecedented.
Vanessa took a small sip of her coffee, the evening sunlight bathed her face, causing a fan-shaped shadow to form on her beautiful countenance due to her long eyelashes, it was extremely beautiful.
"Mom, Terry is my husband. My own sister slept with him and even got pregnant, isn't it impropriate if this news gets out?" She spoke straightforwardly, but her graceful demeanor showed no sign of anger.
Different from other women who reacted violently upon discovering their husband's infidelity, Vanessa was more indifferent, even though the mistress was her own sister.
"Hey, what's wrong with that?!" Veronica's eyes widened, her face full of drama, "No one knows about your marriage to Terry, he can marry Eileen after the divorce!"
As she said this, Eileen on the side also nodded, her originally pretty face suddenly seemed incredibly fake.
Both Vanessa and Eileen inherited Veronica's beauty, but their characters were polar opposites.
They had the same mother, but received such different treatment. If it weren't for Vanessa's magnanimous nature, she would have been outraged long ago.
"Mom, both Eileen and I are your own daughters. You can't just side with her because you divorced my father and married Wade. Furthermore, my marriage with Terry is a proper one, how can...
"Terry does not love you, his heart belongs to Eileen. If it were not for the engagement arranged by the Boyd and Warren families back in the day, you would never have been his bride," Veronica interrupted her without waiting for her to finish, pushing the divorce agreement toward her, "Vanessa, just sign it. Make way for your sister and Terry!"
Vanessa understood deep down that Terry did not have feelings for her. Otherwise, he would not have ended up in Eileen's bed, let alone getting her pregnant. Yet, hearing these words from her own mother's mouth still caused a sting in her heart.
With her black and white eyes, she glanced at the agreement, refusing to back down, "Unless Terry comes to discuss this with me personally!"
"I do not love you!" Just as she finished speaking, a clear, lucid voice rang from behind her.
Garbed in an Italian handmade suit, Terry stepped through the door saying, "Vanessa, being with you is like tasting wax. It's tasteless. Although you consistently portray the role of a virtuous and docile wife, living up to the title of the number one socialite in the city, you have become no more than a perfect puppet, extremely boring!"
The sharp and biting words echoed in Vanessa's ears. Getting up from her chair, she looked at the familiar face of the man before her. How long has it been since she last saw him? Three months, five months, or even one year? She could not recall.
As soon as Eileen spotted Terry, she ran over with a smile and hooked her arms around him, sweetly murmuring, "Terry, you're here!"
"Eileen, you're pregnant, don't move around recklessly!" A smile replaced the stern look on Terry's face as he glanced at Eileen, expressing an extreme fondness impossible to miss.
Compared to the cold treatment he had for Vanessa, the affection he showed towards Eileen were simply worlds apart.
