"Creak."
At the sound of the door opening, Xu Mu'en stiffened.
Peeking out, she saw a man loosening his tie. She quickly emerged from the corner, diving into his arms and began kissing him lightly on tiptoe.
Qin Nanfeng's hand paused; a woman's soft and fragrant body suddenly filled his arms, causing him to lose focus.
"Bang!"
He was pushed onto the bed, his suit button unbuttoned, followed by his shirt. The feather-light kisses made him involuntarily lift his neck; but when his hand touched her waist, he snapped back to reality.
Those were stretch marks, shameful traces! These marks were a constant reminder of why he initially married this woman!
"Xu Mu'en!"
He violently pushed her away, his face red with rage. He switched on the room light, the glaring light driving away the lingering ambiguity.
"You were this proactive that time too, weren’t you?! Xu Mu'en! You’re so despicable! Serves you right that you couldn’t save the baby!"
Cruel words poured from Qin Nanfeng's mouth; seeing her face turning pale white, he grunted, entering the bathroom to freshen up.
Xu Mu'en did not respond. She lowered her head, softly touching the stretch marks on her belly. The baby was long gone; when she woke up in the hospital, the doctor had informed her that she had failed to save the baby, she hadn't even seen the baby's face.
She swallowed her tears. Her grandma was gravely ill, badly needing a large sum of money. As her mother-in-law had clearly stated, only by having a child would Xu gain the qualification to take money from the Qin family.
Soon, the man emerged from the bath, still in his impeccably tailored suit, unusually adjusting his tie in front of the mirror.
"Nanfeng, mom and dad want us to have a baby. Could you please cooperate? As long as we have the baby..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Qin Nanfeng suddenly clutched her throat, "Xu Muen! You think you're fit to bear a child for the Qin family? In your dreams! Don't you forget why you married into the Qin family! Remember where you stand!"
Xu Muen was gasping for breath, her face turning ruby with the lack of oxygen. Her nails were desperately scratching against Qin Nanfeng's iron arms. After being thrown aside, she was panting heavily on the bed.
That year, when she was eighteen and still in college, she found herself pregnant and married to Qin Nanfeng, the eldest son of the Qin family, ending her collegiate life prematurely.
However, disdain and ostracism from the Qin family followed.
"Change your clothes. Our younger uncle is back from overseas, and we're going to have dinner at the Qin family's tonight." Qin Nanfeng's voice was icy cold, his head held high as he fastened the two buttons on his collar. Xu Muen walked over to him, reaching out to help. However, she was met with a ferocious slap.
"Absolutely shameless!" he spat at her.
Xu Muen clenched her fists. She was all too aware why her husband behaved like this towards her - because all along, there was another woman in his heart.
How ironic that the 'moonlight' of his heart was someone else.
"No, Nanfeng, let's get a divorce. The divorce agreement is on the bedside table. All you need to do is give me a million, and I'll sign right away. This is what you have always wanted, isn't it?"
She nonchalantly combed her hair, pulling on her coat. This was the first time she had spoken so boldly.
Since he was unwilling to have a child with her, there was no other way but divorce. Maybe he'd be willing to pay this price just to get rid of her.
After five years of feeling stifled in the Qin family, she had long since had enough. The love she once felt was all but extinguished, all she cared about now was her grandmother's health.
A sarcastic smile spread across Qin Nanfeng's face. If it weren't for Xu Muen, he could have married the woman he truly loved. Finally, this 'candy' would leave him be.
Picking up the divorce agreement, he took a quick glance. His eyes suddenly growing ice cold, "A million? In the five years you’ve spent in the Qin family, you've done nothing to earn a psychic loss compensation of a million. You must be dreaming! Even if I were to give it to a dog, I wouldn't give it to you!"
