Samarah's POV
"Darn it, wake up! I'm going to be late because of you!"
I was jolted awake because of the pain in my ribs. I hugged myself and instinctively protected my head.
"Are you still not going to come out and do your job?!" I heard her angrily say and just when I felt like she was going to raise her foot to kick me again, I immediately stood up and climbed off the bed.
"I-I'll cook now..." I timidly said without looking at her face and directly went to the kitchen to cook for her.
Tears slowly fell on my cheeks while I fried the fish and almost got burnt by the oil. I pressed my lips together and endured the oil that would hit my arms or, even worse, my face.
"What are you screaming for?! You're eating here for free, and you can't even do a basic job?!" She angrily yelled while putting on her makeup.
I looked away and bit my lower lip, trying to endure the pain whenever the hot oil hit my arms.
Right, she's my stepsister, Thalia. She's the child born from cheating and betrayal by my father towards my mother that led to my mother's depression.
My scum father, Roel, had been serving the Wilsey Pack as their right hand. We are a family of betas, so he could only be Wilsey's right hand.
He was a loving and devoted husband-which I thought he was.
In fact, it was just on the surface, to maintain his public image. He acts like a devoted husband and a loving father to his family, when, in fact, he had already been cheating behind his mate's back, which is my mother, Cassandra.
When my mother found out about the existence of an illegitimate child, she was heartbroken and depressed. She confronted my father, which led to them fighting, and the fight... had made my mother depressed.
Day by day, she stopped eating. He refused to see anyone, not even me, and it wasn't until my father had introduced his illegitimate child to my mother and said that he wanted to publicize to everyone that she was his child. That's when my mother's rationality had snapped.
I thought that my mother was cured when she suddenly requested to see me. She hugged me, doted on me and talked to me... but I didn't expect that it would be the last time that I would see her.
"Fuck! Is it not done yet?!" I snapped back to reality and stopped thinking about the past events when I heard Thalia's shout.
I immediately put the dishes I cooked on the table and ready the dishes with spoons and forks.
I couldn't help but envy Thalia, who was spoiled and loved by my father. She was the one who took everything from me.
I sighed helplessly and stopped thinking about it. Now, my top priority is to get out of this hell. I want to run away from this place and never look back.
I'm tired of putting up with their attitude, especially Thalia, who would openly humiliate me and loves to compare herself with me just to make herself feel better and higher.
I don't get why she loves to humiliate me when she has already got everything, from food, power, money, love, everything that is supposed to be mine, she already has it!
I gritted my teeth and tried to suppress the inner rage that wanted to lash out.
Anyway, I'll be turning eighteen soon and I believed that my mate would take me out of this place. This home no longer needs my presence, nor does it serve me.
I'll just wait for my mate to come and save me from this hell, but for now, I'm going to endure this first.
I took a deep breath and removed all the negativity in my head and started humming while serving Thalia, who was now dressed in tight white spaghetti clothes and high-waist black shorts.
"Shut that mouth of yours!" She said in irritation while glaring at me, and then she added, "Do I look good right now?"
I was about to open my mouth when she turned her back and looked in the mirror with satisfaction. "Compared to your bodies who had those ugly glasses, freckles and those slender bodies of yours that made you look sick, of course, I'm gorgeous and seductive."
After she said that, she patted her lips with her red lipstick. I waited for her to finish eating so that I could eat and go to school like I would usually do, but I saw that she didn't eat, but rather, she kept on looking in the mirror, brushing her hair and complementing herself.
Before I could say anything, a knock could be heard from the kitchen. I was going to move when I saw Thalia put down her mirror and immediately went to open the door.
I watched as she opened the door with a broad smile on her face and her eyes were filled with love.
"Havoc, just in time!" She happily said and opened the door, letting him in.
When I saw the person she let enter the house, my heart skipped a beat.
Havoc Wilsey, the heir of our pack.
He was tall and had a muscular figure. He had a sharp nose and fox eyes that could enchant men and women.
I can't deny that I had a secret crush on him, but I know that Alpha Havoc would never choose me, nor would he want to be with me.
I mean who would want to be with a woman who wore black-framed glasses, had freckles on her face, had a slender body, lacked confidence, and had an ugly body posture.
"What the hell are you looking at, you ugly freak?!"
I flinched and immediately averted my gaze. I hung my head long and stared at the floor instead, after hearing Thalia's words.
I felt my cheeks heat up because of her words.
How embarrassing.
He would know that I was looking at him.
He must be disgusted.
"Stop it, Thalia. She's your sister." I heard Havoc calmly say, making my heart skip a beat again.
How good it would be if I were his mate. He might be able to get me out of this hell. There is no one like him who defended me and treated me kindly like he does.
"There you go again, defending this stupid ugly maid of mine! Do you like her or something? That's why you always defend her?!" I heard Thalia shout.
I stiffened. I could hear the loud thump of my heart upon hearing this.
"Stop fussing, Thalia. We're going to be late." Havoc said with a heavy sigh while reminding her about it.
I watched as the two of them filled their stomachs before they left. Before leaving, Thalia looked back and glared at me.
"Clean up the kitchen!"
I nodded my head and watched as Alpha Havoc drove away with my stepsister.
I pursed my lips and looked at the kitchen before starting to clean it up right after I filled my stomach.
'If Havoc is our mate, we could easily kick Thalia's ass!' I heard my was uttered with confidence.
A wry smile appeared on my lips. 'How could that be? Someone as strong and powerful as Alpha as him wouldn't choose an ordinary bookworm like me.'
'Don't lose hope, it's too early to tell. We will know the answer tomorrow.'
