Inside a luxurious and grand study room, the snowy-white walls illuminate the room. There is a whole wall converted into a fixed bookcase filled with neat rows of books. In front of the bookcase is a wooden desk with exquisite craftsmanship. The items on the table are neatly arranged.
At this moment, a man sits before the desk, engrossed in his work. The curtains lightly billow as the breeze blows in, and the soft sunlight outside spills onto the man, perfectly illuminating his handsome side profile. He has sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, a straight nose, and a clear gaze that is as sharp and steady as an eagle's, exuding a powerful aura that is awe-inspiring but not overtly aggressive.
The man is dressed in a hand-stitched Italian suit, radiating refined elegance. His short, dark hair is neat and dapper, and even when he sits quietly, one can sense his high-cool and aloof demeanor, making people apprehensive about approaching him casually.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Come in!" The man's voice is calm and pleasant to the ears.
The person who came in nods slightly and said respectfully, "Mr. Gu, the old master has arrived, and he has brought your... your fiancée with him!"
When Shao Yang mentioned 'fiancée,' his expression became somewhat strange, as if a tiny crack had appeared on his face. Thinking about the sight he had just seen, it was quite an eyesore. He held a three-minute silent tribute for his boss in front of him.
"Hmm, let's go down together." Gu Yichen, upon seeing Shao Yang's expression, guessed that the fiancée his grandfather had brought back must be quite a character.
So be it then, if she's eccentric. Once married, she can just be left at home.
"Xiao Xue, don't worry. Yichen will be down in a moment. My grandson isn't very talkative, but he's not bad-hearted. You don't have to be afraid of him!" In the living room sat an old man and a young girl. The white-haired old man gently patted her hand, his words kind and amiable, warmly calming.
The girl sitting next to him obediently nodded in response.
Soon, the echo of strong, firm footsteps resonated in the spacious living room. Mi Xue looked up nervously and shyly towards the source of the sound. Gu Yichen's gaze met hers simultaneously.
The girl opposite him seemed to be about eighteen or nineteen years old. She had a rounded child-like face with fairly standard features. Her skin was not white, presumably from long-term sun exposure in the countryside. Overall, she was not offensive to the eyes and nowhere near as bad as the coarse rural-woman image he had imagined.
Observing her attire, she had two sleek braids on her head, each adorned with a small red flower. She wore a washed-out tracksuit with 'Lotus Village Middle School' vaguely written across the chest. This getup perfectly embodied the word 'rustic'.
He had never seen someone dress in a school uniform for a blind date before - he truly wondered what this girl was thinking?
Gu Yichen furrowed his brows, feeling an urge to return her...
Seeing his grandson's furrowed brows, Old Master Gu was not pleased. Quickly stepping in as the peacemaker, he introduced them while holding their hands, "Yichen, this is your Grandfather Mi's granddaughter, her name is Mi Xue. Look at how bright-eyed and beautiful she is, she even dresses so simply and cleanly! You must treat her well. Her grandfather saved my life back then..." As he spoke, he found himself reminiscing about the past again.
"Xue, this is my eldest grandson. You two look so perfect standing together!" Overjoyed, the old man pushed them together. Mi Xue looked down shyly and timidly while Gu Yichen maintained an emotionless expression, looking like an iceberg.
Off to the side, Shao Yang was trying desperately to suppress his laughter. His face turned red as he thought to himself, "How on earth do these two make a good match?"
He knew that Gu was expressionless, but he must secretly wish he could just die right now...
"Bro... brother hello, I... I am Mi Xue, you can call me Xiao Xue in the future!" With her head lowered and voice meek, Mi Xue introduced herself before flashing what she believed to be her most beautiful smile.
Gu Yichen's expression became even more intricate. This smile was so cringeworthy that he could barely look at it, and what did she just call him? Brother?
Ha, since when did he acquire this little sister? Where on earth did the old man dig out this oddball from?
"Xiao Xue is talking to you, what are you dazed about?" The old man slapped Gu Yichen's shoulder.
With no words or emotions, Gu Yichen asked stiffly: "Did you bring your ID and household registration?"
"Yes... yes! I even brought my luggage!" As she responded, Mi Xue pointed towards a bag resting on the ground. Gu Yichen looked down to see bedding, a basin, leeks, garlic, even a bunch of eggs. Was the girl planning on going to market in town?
Once again, Gu Yichen's brows furrowed, he elected to ignore it, saying, "Let's go."
"Where to?"
"The Civil Affairs Bureau for our Marriage Certificate."
"Ah…oh!" The girl bent to rummage in her bag, extracting her ID and household registration, and then, as an afterthought, several boiled eggs which she shyly offered to Gu Yichen, whispering: "Brother, would you like an egg? They're from my mom's hen, very delicious!"
At this, Shao Yang couldn't contain his laughter anymore. He burst out laughing, watching the vein on Gu Yichen's forehead throbbing, wondering if he would just pass out.
