At the dilapidated abandoned factory in the suburbs, a girl was lying on the dusty cement floor.

An excruciating pain overcame her. All the bones in her body seemed to have been shattered.

The scarlet blood flowed from her head and stained her inky hair, and her delicate, bloodless face was in jarring contrast to the redness.

Another girl of fifteen to sixteen years old ran down the dilapidated stairs. Looking at the girl in the pool of blood, she said guiltily, "Elena, you fell down on your own. I didn't push you. You can't blame me!"

Elena Miller's face was pale. However much she wanted to speak, she couldn't make a sound. Looking at Elena, who was dying on the ground, gone was the fear and guilt in Rainie Lester's eyes, replaced by cruelty and complacency.

With a greedy smile at the corner of her mouth, Rainie dangled a necklace with a blue pendant from her fingertips, enchanted by the pendant. “It was so beautiful,” she thought, “as though there was a sea of stars in the gem. It had to be a treasure of some kind.”

Having admired the necklace, she glanced at Elena and said, "Our family adopted you out of kindness, and raised you up. You have never repaid us for it, that's fine, but you shouldn't have held on so tightly to the crummy necklace. You should have just given it to me! Gosh, a little gratitude would have been nice!"

Elena looked at the necklace in Rainie's hand. That was the furthest thing from a crummy necklace. It had been left to her by her parents!

It was clear that Rainie's father, Melvin Lester, had killed her parents, seized her family property, and pretended to adopt her. He treated her well in front of others, but behind closed doors she lived a life worse than a dog's.

While Rainie had a propensity to help herself to Elena's belongings, now she even wanted to take away the only memento left by her parents. She couldn't let her do that!

Rainie approached her with a wicked smirk as she dangled the necklace. "Do you want it? Come get it, then."

With every bit of strength she could muster, Elena lifted her hand and reached out for it; however, wriggling her fingers was the best she could do. Her bones seemed to have been dismantled, and her arms remained sapped of energy.

Rainie would never miss the opportunity to laugh at her and mock her. "Oops, I don't think you want this badly enough. It's mine now! Don't ask me for it."

Drawing the necklace near her, she put it on her neck and took a picture with her phone. Admiring the photos and touching the blue pendant, Rainie smiled with satisfaction as she slid her glance toward Elena under her feet. She snorted and said, "Just sit tight and wait to die," then turned around and skipped away.

After an unknown period of time, Elena's consciousness became more and more blurry, and her soul felt as if it was being ripped away from her body bit by bit.

No, she couldn't die like this, she thought, she had to live! With determination, her body seemed to be imbued with great power as she struggled to roll over and lay on the ground on her stomach. All the strength in her body was concentrated on her arms.

The petite figure inched forward little by little, leaving a blood trail in her wake, and even though she was numb from the pain she did not stop at all.

Having escaped from the derelict factory, she clambered her way through the grass and toward the roadside, but as night had already fallen, there were barely any vehicles passing through the empty road.

Time trickled by. In her endless despair, she finally caught a glimpse of a black SUV from a short distance away. There was a glimmer of light in the girl's dim eyes. To the best of her ability, she raised her slender arm and waved it feebly in the air.

Finally, the car stopped at the side of the road, and the rear window rolled down slowly to reveal a well-defined side profile before her eyes.

Raising her head, she used up her last bit of strength to say, "Save me… please save me."

The man raked his gaze over the wretched girl on the side of the road who was only in her teens. He saw that her whole body was covered in blood, and her pale little face smeared with dirt. Far from evoking his distaste, he felt she appeared mournful and charming in the moonlight. He spotted the bloodstain on her back, which had left a bloody trail along the old factory path not far away. She had obviously clambered out from there, he thought. The girl seemed to be dying, but the light in her eyes was brighter than the starlight.

Benjamin Quartley opened the car door and got out of the car, slowly approaching her. Like a god, his tall and handsome figure stood against the starlight.

Elena finally saw the man who looked as much like a god. His facial features were pronounced and refined, the combination of which had built a finely wrought handsome face. Elena had never seen such a good-looking man. She watched as the man approached her. Was he trying to save her?

She was about to say thank you when everything went black and she completely lost consciousness.
