A resounding slap lands on my cheek, burning my skin like it touched a hot iron plate, I stumble and fall on the ground. My father grumbles as his palm clasps into a fist. I can feel his anger flaring up. His amber eyes glare through me, like I am the most disgusting thing on earth.
"I am sorry sir." I lower my head and admit my mistake, he never allowed me to touch Mom's stuff, I touched it and broke it this time. I find myself shivering, I can't hold back my tear and wait for my punishment.
I am Bella Clive My, an ordinary Omega. My father is the famous Beta of our pack, The Oak Pride Pack, but I have never received any love from him.
He thunders against me, “You good for nothing piece of crap.” He raises his voice like it was the end of the world as he rushed to the broken shards of China laid on the ground.
He always reminds me about how unlucky I am for him and the whole pack. My father would lock me up with any mere reason of something because according to him, I snatched his beloved mate from him.
My mother, Linda Clive who was a loving lady with sweet round face and small doe eye, as I heard from my father and other families of our pack. They were a perfect match.
It’s said that, that night a severe earthquake hit our pack territory, destroying a lot of our homes and businesses including the crops. The pack lost lots of our pack members including so many warriors who tried their best to save our pack. My father chose to stay with my mother that night, but he only saved me. My mother passed away at the age of twenty-five.
My birth brought disaster to the wolves, my father always said. He regarded me as a catastrophe, and refused to let me leave the hut, and lived in the royal castle by himself.
My father never got out of the shadow of my mother's death, he tried to find the traces of my mother in me. Whenever I make a mistake, he always punishes me severely, regretting that he chose to save me that night instead of protecting other pack members. I often feel guilty about it, but what choice did I have at the time? I couldn't choose my birth.
I can't even get freedom.
"I want you to remember your mistake forever! Go to the basement with me!" He grabbed my arm firmly and tried to drag me to the basement for punishment. The sharp China fragments slit the skin on my ankle, and it starts to bleed.
"No! Dad, please don't do this." I raised my eyes and looked at him crying. The similar appearance to my mother successfully made him panic. The moment he let up, I broke free and stormed out of our house.
I gasp for a breather as I finally halt at the end of the forest where I can see the high fortress of Alpha Greg.
I always wondered how the fortress looks like from the inside as I am just an omega who had no right to enter the castle without permission. And my father especially forbade me to ever lurking around there.
The forest ends here and I rest under a tree to wait for my friend Laura who is supposed to be here in an hour. I am early thanks to my father, but it is a better choice to stay in the nature than locked up in a dark room.
I lay on my back as the birds chirp above me, making me chuckle lightly.
“Miss Becca Clive! A revolting voice echoes in the forest which wakes me up from my short nap. I instantly knew who it is.
I snap open my eyes and gleam to see my one and only friend, Laura, Laura Gerard.
She is a beautiful gray wolf, that I envy her fur. Her beautiful face glows to see me as well.
I was just fifteen when I found her quivering in this forest. Some of the rogues injured her so much that her claws took almost two months to heal completely.
The first time we met, she was an aggressive little cub, I had to shift into a wolf to prove her that I mean no harm.
We are almost the same age, just last month she turned twenty and I am going to be tomorrow.
She stands before me like a loving mother. With a smile I greet her, “Good morning Laura.”
“Its already lunch time, girl. And how long are you waiting here that you even fell asleep?”
I want to skip the regular explanation of how my father threw a tantrum over my mother's belongings.
So I directly ask her about our plan, “So. Did you prepare everything we need tomorrow?”
Laura nods with a gentle smile, “Yeah. It’s all set. Just wait till the night tomorrow.”
Finally we are escaping from here and going to live a normal life like any other wolf and we will have freedom of our own.
I am only waiting to turn 20 as the pack has a rule that no wolf under the age of twenty can leave the pack to control rogue population. And if caught, they will execute us themselves, so better be cautious.
Tomorrow is the day, a smile glows on my lips as I felt a flow of energy rushing through my veins. I’m gonna be free.
