Jia Erhu, who would be released from prison as soon as his sentence was over the next day, was lying in his cell, so excited that he couldn't sleep all night.
For six years, from the very first day he was admitted, he was awaiting this moment.
Also unable to sleep was his elder brother, Jia Dalong.
However, Jia Dalong was not excited. Instead, he was filled with apprehension.
He wasn't sure if it was right or wrong for him to have agreed with the leaders to have Jia Erhu live with him at his home. Even more unclear was whether his wife, Wen Ruyu, would agree with the arrangement.
After taking a bath, Wen Ruyu lay in bed, her flawless body beautifully lit by the bedroom lights.
Walking into the bedroom, Jia Dalong swallowed hard, but his desire surpassed his abilities.
Before going to bed, the beautiful and provocative presentation of Wen Ruyu was, unquestionably, a silent threat to Jia Dalong.
Each time, Jia Dalong resembled a child who had done something wrong, cowering in one corner of the large and comfortable double bed, not daring to even breathe, his self-esteem at rock bottom.
But today was different.
Because of Jia Erhu, the overwhelmed Jia Dalong tried to ingratiate himself with Wen Ruyu by climbing onto her, with a grin plastered on his face.
"Don't disturb me, I'm reading my book!" Wen Ruyu said without even lifting her eyes.
This kind of scenario had happened too many times.
Over the one year that they had been married, Jia Dalong, feverish even on their wedding night, soon lost his gusto and subsequently entered a long period of recovery.
"Ruyu," stammered Jia Dalong, "There's something I'd like to discuss with you."
Wen Ruyu glanced at him and asked, "What's up? Why are you leaning on me?"
"I...my younger brother has been released from jail...I want to bring him home to live with me, what do you think..."
"A convict?" Wen Ruyu almost jumped out of the bed, staring at Jia Dalong. Then she blinked and asked, "Where did you get a younger brother from? I thought you were an orphan."
Well, it's a long story.
Jia Dalong comes from Jiajia Village in a remote part of the country. His parents, when working in Haicheng as rural migrant workers, found a child near a garbage can.
That boy was Dalong.
His parents named the child Erhu.
Later, after their parents died, Jia Dalong managed to attend university while Jia Erhu ended up in prison.
"Why did he end up in jail?" Wen Ruyu asked.
"He...he assaulted someone with a blade, leaving them seriously injured...he was...he was sentenced to six years."
"A murderer?" Wen Ruyu's hair stood on end. She looked Jia Dalong up and down again, "Considering your gentle nature, it's hard to believe your brother is capable of murder."
"He's not my biological brother!"
"And so? Your timid nature is a product of the environment you were raised in. Even though he was adopted by your parents and raised in the same environment as you, how much could his character differ from yours?"
Jia Dalong shook his head with a bitter smile, "He...he is completely different from me. Otherwise, how could he have committed murder?"
"How old is he?"
"Twenty-four years old."
"Puff-" Wen Ruyu's eyes bulged like large bells: "Served six years in prison, and he's only twenty-four when he comes back? So, he... killed when he was eighteen?"
Jia Dalong nodded his head awkwardly, "But he was forced..."
"Boom, boom, music beats—"
Before Jia Dalong could finish speaking, sudden deafening music came from upstairs, accompanied by thumping foot noises. It felt like the floorboards would collapse.
Irked, Wen Ruyu stood up, preparing to open the window. Jia Dalong quickly held her back and said, "Let it go; she's just a hooligan, not worth the trouble."
"What do you mean, not worth the trouble? This kind of disturbance every now and then, who could bear it?"
"Look, so many people live here in the community, who dares manage her behavior?"
Furious and frustrated, Wen Ruyu walked to the sofa in the living room and sat down. Jia Dalong quickly followed.
Looking at her timid husband, Wen Ruyu suddenly asked, "When is your brother being released from prison?"
"To... tomorrow."
"Okay, I will go with you to pick him up tomorrow!"
"Really?" Jia Dalong could hardly believe his ears.
Wen Ruyu was utterly irritated by Chen Lingyan who lived on the floor above!
Do you think you can behave like a thug and a good-for-nothing? Just wait until Jia Dalong's prisoner brother comes back to deal with you; let's see if you dare to act so arrogantly then!
Wen Ruyu nodded, stood up intending to return to her bedroom. Jia Dalong, filled with joy, promptly lifted her and carried her into the bedroom, tumbling onto the bed with a look of full confidence.
With a mix of suspicions, Wen Ruyu asked, “Where did this confidence come from tonight?”
Jia Dalong replied with an awkward smile, “I've been conditioning myself lately, and just had some medicinal wine. Maybe I could turn the tide.”
But it turned out, his effort still fell short.
"Let's sleep," Wen Ruyu sighed, "We have to get up early to get to the province town tomorrow."
Jia Dalong let out a couple of dry laughs, climbed down from her with embarrassment, and cuddled her to sleep...
The next morning, they drove to the entrance of the province town prison.
As Jia Dalong had just parked the car, Wen Ruyu opened the door and got out. She looked up to see a hulk of a man walking out from the prison gate.
Stepping out of the prison gate, Jia Erhu took a deep breath of fresh, free air. Accidentally, he spotted a breathtakingly beautiful woman descending from a car.
She was tall and slim with curves to kill for.
Her demeanor was elegant and dignified, sexy yet subtly pure in her beauty.
To tell it straight, Jia Erhu felt the village belle, Wu Jinhua, was outshone by this stunning woman, at least by a few dozen blocks.
However, he couldn't have dreamed that this extremely beautiful woman was in fact Jia Dalong's wife.
