Kinsley
I am sitting in my favourite bar, waiting for my friends to arrive. They are late as always. I am used to it. Their timekeeping is terrible. I am happy enough to sit here with my cocktail until they arrive, relaxing after a busy week at work. We had no wild plans for tonight—a few cocktails and perhaps karaoke.
I take a sip of my cocktail and suddenly feel like a pair of eyes burn into me. I glance around and finally find who they belong to. A guy is standing at the bar, watching me, circling the rim of his class with his fingers. He is tall with dark brown hair, a perfectly sculpted face, and full, kissable looking lips, and I could see through his tee he is toned with arms which would keep you warm at night. I couldn’t determine his eye colour because he was too far away.
The stranger smirks at me and licks his lips. I smile sweetly at him, feeling my cheeks heat under his gaze. I break eye contact with him because I am not looking to hook up tonight. I am out for a girl’s night. I am no prude, I love dating and sex as much as the next one, but some nights I just want to have fun with my girls.
I take a long drink of my cocktail to cool me down. When I finally look back up, the handsome stranger has disappeared. Oh, well. I shrug it off and check my phone to see if I have texts from my friends. I do, telling me they would be here in ten minutes.
When I pull my attention away from it and turn to put it in my bag, I get frightened because the stranger from the bar sits right next to me. How did he manage to sit without me noticing? Is he a ninja or something?
“What the fuck?” the words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.
He chuckles, “It isn’t very ladylike to curse.”
“Excuse me? If I want to curse, I will.” I protest.
He laughs again, “Calm down, I am joking. Why are you sitting alone in a bar?”
“I am waiting for my friends. Is there a reason you invited yourself to sit at my table?” I ask with a raised brow.
“Yes. I wanted to introduce myself. I am Connor.”
He flashes a charming smile at me, and it is a beautiful smile. I also finally noticed the colour of his eyes. They are a bright pale blue colour. I don’t believe I have ever seen someone with his eye colour. They are very pretty.
“Kinsley,” I reply casually.
“When are your friends coming? Do you have time to have a drink with me?”
The man oozes confidence.
“They will be here in probably ten minutes. What makes you think I want to have a drink with you?” I ask and raise my brow at him.
Connor scoots a little closer to me, his leg brushing against mine.
“Because if you didn’t want to, you would have told me to leave. Would you like another cocktail?”
One drink can’t hurt, right?
I pretend to think about it, not wanting to seem eager, “Sure, thanks.” I say sweetly.
He nods, stands and disappears to the bar to get us drinks. I hope he doesn’t think he is getting anything from me because I am allowing him to buy me a drink.
Connor appears back a couple of minutes later and sets my drink down.
“Thank you, but before I drink this, I have a question: what do you want in return?”
I am the type to get straight to the point.
Connor chuckles, “I don’t expect anything in return. My only angle is to have a drink with a pretty woman while she waits for her friends. Nothing more, well, unless we get a long, a phone number, but I promise I have no bad intentions.”
Connor holds his hands up. I study him for a moment, and I believe he is being truthful. I smile and nod, taking a sip from the cocktail. Connor smiles back and does the same.
“What do you and your friends have planned for the night?”
“Hmm, just a few drinks. It has been a hectic week, so we plan on relaxing and see where the night takes us. What about you? Are you out alone?”
I didn’t notice him with anyone else.
“No, my friends are over at one of the tables. We plan on having a few drinks and then hit the club.” He smiles.
“Why aren’t you sitting with your friends?”
“Because you caught my attention. My friends understand.”
“Okay, Mr Charming.”
I take a drink and smirk behind my glass. Connor laughs loudly.
“I try my best.”
I playfully roll my eyes at him.
“Why aren’t you friends already here? You have been here for a little while.” He asks.
“They are running late as always. How do you know how I have been here?”
Connor rests his hand on my knee, “Because I noticed you the second you walked in the door, gorgeous. I would have been an idiot not to. I am sure I wasn’t the one either.”
Why didn’t I realise someone had been watching me since I got here?
I cross my arms over my chest and wiggle my brows, “So you have been creeping on me?”
“Don’t say it like that. It makes me sound like a stalker.” He laughs.
I smirk, “You kind of have been acting like one. Why didn’t you just talk to me first rather than wait?”
“I had to make sure you weren’t waiting for a boyfriend or date. And I wanted to see how you would react, catching me staring at you.”
I like he is honest. It is quite a rare thing these days.
“No boyfriend. No date.”
“I gathered that. Tell me, Kinsley, what were your thoughts when you first saw me?”
Connor locks his eyes on mine, drawing circles on my knee with his fingers. I feel my skin heat under his rough fingertips. I keep myself.
“Meh!” I shrug and snicker.
“Gee, thanks.” He pouts.
I couldn’t help myself.
“I am joking. Do not get your panties in a twist. You are handsome, but I get the sense you already know that.”
“What are you saying that I am cocky and arrogant?”
“Maybe a little.” I laugh.
He acted offended but finally nodded, “I am, a little, but I swear I am a nice guy.”
“Hmm, if you say so.” I tease.
Connor doesn’t speak for a moment; he just stares at me, and it was getting a little uncomfortable.
“You are a feisty one, aren’t you? I get that sense from you. You don’t take any nonsense.”
“Yes. I don’t take crap from anyone.” I reply.
“I like my women feisty. I find it sexy.”
Connor’s voice is low and almost seductive. It causes a shudder to run down my spine.
I am ready to come back with a smartass comment, but before I can.
“Should we come back?” Kylie’s voice says.
Connor and I turn our attention and see my two friends, Kylie and Lisa standing there, smirking.
“No, she is all yours. Have a good night, ladies.”
Connor stands up and faces me for a moment, “Hopefully, see you around, gorgeous.” he winks before walking away.
My friends joined me at the table, “Who was that fine-assed man?” Lisa groans.
“Connor. I grabbed his attention, and he thought he would come to join me for a drink.” I smile.
“Please tell me you at least got his number?” Kylie asks.
I shrug it off, “No, but it is fine. I am not looking for a one-night stand.”
“You have more willpower than me. I would have pounced on him the moment he sat next to me.” Lisa laughs.
“Oh, we know.” I chuckle, Kylie nodding next to me.
Lisa smirks, “What can I say, I love dick too much. I can’t help it.”
The statement couldn’t be truer. The three of us laugh loudly before ordering drinks. It is going to be a fun night, and who knows, perhaps we will run into Connor and his friends along the way.
