"Mom! Mom! Help me! Dad and Auntie are trying to take my kidney!"
Upon receiving her daughter's call, Xia Liang hadn't even responded when she heard her daughter’s terrified screams.
"Yuer? Where are you?"
Xia Liang thought her daughter was playing a prank on her. She had been married to Zhou Hao for thirty years, living a life filled with love and happiness. How could he possibly harm their own daughter?
"Mom, shh...”
The moment her daughter stopped speaking, Xia Liang heard familiar voices on the other line.
"When will Doctor Wang be done? This brat will wake up soon."
It was Xia Jing, her twin sister. She had been living in Xia Liang's villa since her brother-in-law died ten years ago.
"She won't wake up any time soon. Jing, don't worry, the kidney match was successful and Doctor Wang is a skilled surgeon. Xiaodie will be alright!"
The male voice on the phone was as gentle as ever, but his words left Xia Liang feeling as if she had fallen into an icy cave.
Her daughter was not joking! Was Zhou Hao really planning to give their daughter’s kidney to Xiaodie? Why? What's the relationship between Xiaodie and him?
Xia Liang felt anxious, but then the phone on the other end got disconnected. She didn't know whether it was an accidental hang-up or someone had found out.
Where was her daughter? Why would Zhou Hao do such a thing? Xia Liang tried to recall the conversation she just heard. Doctor Wang??
Three hours later, Xia Liang burst through a door, her eyes bloodshot.
The room was blood-soaked, with Yuer lying on a makeshift bed as blood pooled on the floor. On the adjacent bed, the calm Xiaodie was hooked up to a respirator, sleeping peacefully.
"Zhou Yu!"
Xia Liang flung herself forward, staring at her daughter’s abdomen that had yet to be sewn up, her eyes crimson. She trembled as she reached out to touch the tip of her daughter's nose, she isn’t breathing!
No, impossible! Her Yu-er is only thirteen! Xia Liang stubbornly pressed her fingers to her daughter's neck, her vision darkened, nearly passing out.
She gritted her teeth violently, her bloodshot eyes bore into Zhou Hao and Xia Jing:
"Why?"
"Hadn’t I already told you that I had posted a message on the web? Results are imminent. Why couldn’t you wait? She is only thirteen! Thirteen!!!"
Xia Liang had seen videos online before about organ trafficking, but the culprits were always human traffickers, always frauds. Who knew a biological father and aunt could be so cruel?
"I... Sister, Little Butterfly is only eighteen, she couldn't wait any longer, she was dying…”
Xia Jing had red eyes, she held her chest, her face showing a sense of grievance:
"She calls you aunt, we are related by blood, could you bear to see her die and do nothing?"
"But what about my Yu-er? She’s only thirteen! She's related to you too! How could you be so heartless to kill her?"
"I…”
"Xia Liang, my dear sister, you owe this to me and Little Butterfly!"
Xia Jing abruptly stopped crying, instead a teasing smile crept on her face:
"My dear sister, do you think you’re very happy because you're successful in your business and have a harmonious family? But do you know what I and Hao do at home while you're working so hard to make money outside?"
"When you are too busy and dizzy to even eat, Hao and I were making love passionately at home!"
"When you were drinking with those old men for the company's results until your stomach was bleeding and almost killed you, Hao and I were spending the money you earned in style. The villa we live in, the sofa, the kitchen, the bathroom, the dining table, the coffee table, even the big bed where you two have been sleeping since you got married, do you know how many times Hao made love to me on these places?"
"Xiaodie is also Hao's child. For so many years, because of you, she couldn't even acknowledge her own biological father. This is what you owe me!"
Boom...
Xia Liang only felt a surge of anger rushing to her forehead. Her own younger sister, the good-hearted sister she had taken in, was actually having an affair with her man right under her nose, within the same room, even on their nuptial bed?
"You... Zhou Hao, tell me that what she said is not true? She's just trying to upset me deliberately, isn't she?"
Xia Liang couldn't believe it. She took a step forward, her hands desperately gripping Zhou Hao's shoulders as she shook him forcefully; the veins on her arm were protruding.
"Heh, my dear older sister, do you still remember how you guys started your wealth?"
Zhou Hao turned his head, not daring to look into the woman's bloodshot eyes. Xia Liang only felt her heart as cold as ice, throbbing with pain.
Like a sharp dagger being repeatedly stirred in her heart. The pain made her almost breathless.
She hurriedly went through her bag, panicking as she pulled out a pill bottle.
But she was too angry, her vision began to darken, and her hands were trembling so much that she couldn't even hold the pill bottle steady.
With a "pat" sound, the pill bottle fell to the ground. She gritted her teeth and bent down to pick it up, but a small, delicate hand with a manicured iris decoration snatched it up before she could.
"Do you want it?"
Xia Jing waved the pill bottle in front of Xia Liang. Xia Liang tried to grab it, but Xia Jing outpaced her, rushed to the bathroom, and dumped all of the tablets into the toilet.
Xia Liang wanted to rush over to retrieve it, only to hear a "whoosh" sound—the sound of a flushing toilet.
"You..."
She clutched her chest tightly, the pain of suffocation making her nearly breathless.
"Hehe, my dear sister, do you still remember how your family's situation turned around?"
Looking at Xia Jing's unperturbed demeanor, she realized her chances were slim today. Yet, hearing these words, her heart still flutters.
She knows whatever Xia Jing is about to say next will not be pleasant. But, after thirty years of marriage, what else could Zhou Hao be keeping from her?
"Do you remember Zhou Yutian?"
Zhou Yutian? In their household, such a name was taboo. Xia Liang suddenly didn't want to listen anymore. In her heart, she vaguely guessed something.
It doesn't make sense for Xia Jing to bring that up out of nowhere! Unless, Zhou Yutian's death had something to do with both of them.
As she thought, Xia Jing, holding Zhou Hao's hand with pride, boasted,
"That boy was so clever. His grades were so good that teachers said he could even win a university entrance championship, if it weren't for that car accident..."
Xia Liang's heart shattered. The car accident—was it not an accident?
"My dear sister, how come your luck is so good? You gave birth to a son with rare "panda blood," and even managed successful transplantation. The heart transplant cost a million, and with this, brother Hao and you started a family, amassing this fortune. Sister, haven't you also been enjoying these years? Tsk tsk, spending the money your son earned with his life, you're literally eating bread soaked with your own son's blood, living a lavish life..."
"You..."
Xia Liang trembled with anger all over. Her heart hurt so much she felt numb, she lost her strength and fell on the ground. Using the last of her strength, she raised her hand and pointed at Zhou Hao, her husband with whom she had shared weal and woe for thirty years:
"The child actually is..."
Zhou Hao's face is stone cold, thin lips pressed tightly together. His attractive eyes reflected a flicker of unwilling resentment. However, he didn't utter any word of contradiction.
Looking at his expression, what else could Xia Liang fail to understand?
"So, my dear sister, please proceed to reunite with your son and daughter,"
Xia Liang has a heart condition, any form of shock would cause her condition to flare. The moment Xia Jing threw away her medication, Xia Liang's life was as good as over.
Staring at the wickedly arrogant couple, her beloved husband and biological younger sister, Xia Liang smiled mysteriously. The fresh red on her lips was shocking.
"Well, wait for you..."
Xia Jing carelessly turned up her lip, Xia Liang always acted like this, as though she understood everything.
She let go of Zhou Hao's arm, arrogantly walked to Xia Liang's side, and kicked hard towards Xia Liang's already immobile body, scoffing, "Humph, idiot!"
"My dear sister, your billions of fortunes and husband, I will take good care of them for you!"
Just as her words fell, an urgent call echoed in her ears,
"Hold on, Madam Xia Liang, we're almost there. We can reach you in just five minutes."
The color drained from Xia Jing's face, that voice is...
At that moment, an old backup phone slid down. The number calling was displayed: 110. The call duration, already forty-four minutes...
