Chapter 1: A Visit to the Police Station
This was Luo Ye's first time at the police station.
And he was brought in against his will.
Looking bewildered the entire time, Luo Ye was playing video games at home when suddenly, two police officers walked in. They kindly put handcuffs on him and invited him for a self-driving trip to the police station in their squad car.
Sitting in the interrogation room, Luo Ye stared wide-eyed, giving an innocent gaze at the young policeman in front of him.
"Name."
"Luo Ye."
"Gender."
"Male."
"Occupation."
"Student."
"Where do you study?"
"Jiang City University, I am enrolling tomorrow."
The policeman took a longer look at him.
"You're a good-looking young man and don't seem like someone who would commit a crime."
The young police officer asked, "Do you know what you've done wrong?"
Quickly shaking his head, Luoye answered.
"Don’t you really know?"
Looking at him with doubtful eyes, the officer inquired.
"Then, why don't you explain why you broke into a private residence?"
The young police officer suspected that Luoye might have been lusting after something.
Having no other explanation, after seeing the homeowner, the young police officer could only think of this as a reason.
After all, the girl was too beautiful.
"Broke into a private home?"
With a baffled look on his face and a genuine spark in his eyes, Luoye caused the young police officer to also feel lost, "Why would you appear at Building 5, Room 614, of the Teacher's Apartments?"
"614? But that's my home."
The young police officer took out some data in his hands, glanced at it and then sternly said, "Young man, this is a police station. Honesty is the best policy and resistance will lead to harsher punishment."
"Tell me honestly, why were you in 614."
".....But that really is my home."
Bewildered, Luoye couldn't help but wonder why no one believed him when he told the truth.
Could it be that his wonderful university life hadn't even started and he was already in trouble?
"The owner of room 614 is a professor from Jiangcheng University. This professor rents the room to a female student, not you."
"Rent? Professor?"
Luo Ye's expression lightened up a bit, "Is that professor's name Gu Mingxuan?"
"Oh well, your research is quite detailed."
Luo Ye: "… ..."
"Gu Mingxuan is my brother."
The policeman was taken aback and he looked at the file again.
"Let me repeat, this is a police station. Your surname is Luo, his surname is Gu, did you come to the police station to tell lies?"
Luo Ye pondered for a moment. At this time, Gu Mingxuan should be on the plane, with his phone switched off, so the policeman couldn't reach him.
Luo Ye is a freshman at Jiangcheng University. Why did he choose Jiangcheng University?
Because the girl he was secretly in love with in high school promised him that if he could get admitted to Jiangcheng University, she would be with him.
Secondly, his older brother, Gu Mingxuan, is a professor at Jiang University, making everything convenient for him.
However, he didn't expect that after his brother dropped him off at Jiang University, he just took a plane abroad to pursue his fourth doctorate degree.
With one day left before the start of the semester, he went to the faculty apartment assigned to his brother by the university, which is Unit 4 of Building 5, room 614.
Does that mean, the room had already been rented out by his elder brother? And it was rented to a female student?
When the girl returned home and noticed movement inside, she slipped out quietly to report to the police.
After some investigation, the situation became as clear as daylight, and Luo Ye had a sudden realization.
What a mess.
Gu Mingxuan's flight of six hours, which would still take at least three more hours to land, and he had to squat in the police station for three hours.
Soon enough, an aged police officer walked in, who seemed to be quite experienced.
The younger officer gave up his seat, letting out a shout, "Chief!"
Luo Ye was shocked.
The Chief? The head of the police station came to interrogate him personally?
Even if Luo Ye hadn't really done anything wrong, he felt a slight sense of worry in his heart.
The older officer handed a piece of document to the younger officer. After reading it, his expression changed.
It was Luo Ye's profile.
The son of two martyrs, both his parents were police officers who died on duty, and he was raised by his aunt. He is Gu Mingxuan's cousin.
Although they're cousins, they grew up together and are as close as genuine brothers.
No wonder the chief came personally.
"Young man, we misunderstood you this time."
"No."
Luo Ye meekly remained silent.
The stationmaster looked at Luo Ye with satisfaction and praised, "Jiang University is also a prestigious school, study hard in the future and serve the country."
Luo Ye nodded.
He declined the stationmaster's kind suggestion to stay for the night, just eating dinner and then leaving.
The night in Jiang City was cool, and the September air was exceptionally refreshing.
However, Luo Ye's mood was gloomy.
School starts tomorrow, and he found that all the hotels near the school were already booked, and definitely, he can't return to the faculty apartments.
What a mess.
He traveled over 1,700 kilometers from Jing City to Jiang City for university, and before even starting, he had to spend half a day at the police station, and now he didn't even have a place to stay for the night.
Nice, what a perfect start.
Suddenly, a cool wind blew over, a light drizzle falling on Luo Ye's head.
Luo Ye took shelter under a tree, took out his phone, opened the chat interface with his female goddess, and shared the day's events.
However, she didn't reply to him.
Luo Ye flipped through his chat history and sighed.
Ever since he had informed the other person about his admission to Jiang City University, he had received no response.
Perhaps...he had been nurturing unrequited feelings all along.
The hint was there, the other person merely sought an excuse to refuse him.
It was his fault if he was still being so naive.
This summer after graduation gave him three long months. Perhaps, his admiration for his muse had faded in those months, and his reluctancy was only due to a slight bit of unwillingness.
Now a university student, it was time to start a new life.
With so much rain in Jiang City, maybe it's better to find an Internet café for the time being.
Luo Ye took out his ID card and switched on a computer.
The cafe was conveniently located opposite the school, making it possible for him to register for classes as soon as he woke up.
He booted the computer, opened the Tomato Fiction website, and began writing.
In fact, he was a relatively well-known online author with the pseudonym "Fallen Leaves Return to their Roots." His first romance novel took off during the three summer months.
Given his age and impending student status, his manuscript fees were considerable, relieving any financial pressure.
The next day.
It was still drizzling. For Jiang City University's start of the school year, Luo Ye first went to the teachers' dormitory.
Staring at the door of room 614, Luo Ye gently knocked, but there was no response. So, he knocked again, still with no reply.
After hesitating for a while, Luo Ye took out his key and opened the door.
The suitcase he left in the house last night still remained in the living room, with a note on it.
: I'm sorry, I have just rented this room recently. The landlord is out of the country. I thought there was a thief in the house when I heard some movement.
The handwriting was neat and beautiful.
He was so engrossed in his game yesterday that he didn't even notice someone entering, so it served him right to be caught unawares.
Luo Ye put the note into his bag and left to go to the entrance of Jiangcheng University.
It was the first day of the semester, yet it started raining, and the rain was getting heavier. A female senior with an umbrella approached him.
"Are you a freshman? Let me see your admission letter."
Luo Ye took out the admission letter from his bag, and the senior took a glance.
"Luo Ye, majoring in Computer Science."
After taking a look at Luo Ye’s handsome face, the older schoolmate became more enthusiastic.
"Come, little brother, follow me."
With the senior's enthusiastic guidance, Luo Ye completed his registration and found his own dormitory.
Room 515 of Building 8. He declined the senior’s dinner invitation. After bidding her farewell, Luo Ye headed for his dorm.
The three future roommates had not yet arrived; the students from out of town are said to register on the first of September, while the local students register on the second, so they would not be here until tomorrow.
After tidying up the bed, Luo Ye thought to make some room adjustments after his roommates arrived tomorrow.
Suddenly, the phone rang. The caller was Gu Mingxuan, Luo Ye picked up the call.
"Luo, there's something I need to tell you. Don't go to the teacher's apartment. I rented it out during my time abroad."
"...I went there yesterday."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, then the follow-up: "Did she do anything to you?"
"No, she just played a trick on me."
"Pfft, that's just like her."
"Luo, she's one of my students, at Jiang University. You're bound to get to know her sooner or later, she's pretty great, just a bit hard to get along with."
After ending the call, Lu Ye walked to the balcony, a ray of sunlight streamed in.
The rain had stopped.
Maybe it's time for a walk.
Luo Ye was strolling in Jiang University.
The most magnificent building in Jiang University was, naturally, the library, standing tall in front of the main entrance, it was indeed a remarkable sight.
At the entrance of the library, looking at the facial recognition automatic door, Luo Ye fell into contemplation.
At this moment, a tall girl with long black hair, dressed in loose jeans, strides past Luo Ye.
Don't ask why Luo Ye could tell she has long legs even in baggy jeans - some things can’t be concealed by clothing.
Luo Ye didn’t get a look at the girl's face, but just seeing her back was enough to let one's imagination run wild.
The girl's hair was wet, her clothes slightly damp, and the white laptop bag she was carrying also had some water stains on it, clearly indicating that she had just come in from the rain.
"Senior!"
Luo Ye called out to her.
The girl turned sideways and glanced at Luo Ye with a calm look.
"Are you calling me?"
She asked quietly.
Seeing the girl's face, Luo Ye couldn’t help but marvel.
He had heard that beautiful women hail from Jiang City, but he didn't expect to meet such a beautiful girl as soon as he got to school.
She wasn't wearing makeup, but she still looked graceful and delicate. She was so beautiful that her looks could be described as "eclipsing the moon and putting flowers to shame".
Luo Ye was not good with words, not really talkative, hadn't dated, and was somewhat shy.
"Senior...can...can you help me swipe...my face?"
The girl was slightly stunned as she stood in front of the facial recognition system.
The next moment.
The electronic door access system buzzes to life.
"You go in first."
"Thank you, senior sister."
Like a bashful young man, Luo Ye steps inside.
The girl looks at Luo Ye in surprise. She hadn't expected that he would stop her just to have her help him swipe his face.
To tell the truth, Luo Ye is the 5th freshman she has encountered today.
But those first four students, all they wanted was to get her contact.
"Zhouzhou, why are you rushing?"
Another girl jogs up to them. Compared to the previous girl, this one isn't as strikingly beautiful, but she is still an undeniable beauty.
Her name is Qin Yuwen, a junior in the School of Business and also the school's resident belle.
The girl standing before her is her best friend, called Su Baizhou, who also happens to be the student council president of the Jiangcheng University.
At the same time, she is the sole campus belle of "Jiangda," a workaholic known as the icy beauty, the extraordinarily beautiful girl in the Computer Science specialty that one rarely meets in a decade.
"There are lots of things to attend to for the freshman," Su Baizhou answered calmly.
"By the way, what happened after that incident yesterday? Was the thief brought to justice?"
"It's a misunderstanding."
Su Baizhou remained expressionless.
The police had already explained the ins and outs of the incident to her.
