A pregnant woman stood in the dimly lit hallway of the hotel.
Despite having no makeup, she was young and attractive, with natural beauty that cosmetics could not match.
"Charlotte, are you sure Evan will come tonight?" asked the pregnant woman, Caitlin Baker.
"Of course, I invited him. He said he's available later on," replied Charlotte.
Caitlin caressed her abdomen, blushing. "Then he knows I'm..."
Charlotte glanced at Caitlin's bulging belly and sneered inwardly.
"Don't worry. He didn't know before tonight, but he'll understand when he comes over. You've been pregnant for nine months, and he'll feel sorry for you."
Caitlin nodded, "Okay."
Charlotte continued, "Caitlin, I'm not upset, but you should believe me. Mom and dad have always been opposed to your relationship with Evan. It was my idea for you to elope with him. You can only be with him now that you're pregnant. Isn't that a brilliant idea?"
Caitlin held Charlotte's hand, "No, I didn't mean that. Sis, I know you're doing this for my own good."
"I'm happy to hear that. You stay here first. I'll go and find Evan," said Charlotte, patting Caitlin's hand before leaving the room.
Caitlin waited anxiously in the room, hoping to see Evan again after nine long months.
She had eloped with him after her 18th birthday party, per Charlotte's suggestion.
After they had sex, Evan had avoided her, but she had discovered she was pregnant.
Charlotte suggested that she should keep the baby and that she and Evan could return to the Baker family after the baby was born.
As she waited, she heard footsteps outside the door.
Charlotte's voice could be heard, "Don't blame her for this, Evan. Caitlin is young and doesn't know much. She was also afraid of something like that happening. She couldn't take it anymore and ran away. Under that circumstance, all a girl can do is... Since she's pregnant with that b*stard, you... I hope you don't put too much blame on her..."
Caitlin's footsteps abruptly halted. "What? B*stard? She was pregnant with Evan's child!"
As Evan entered the room, Caitlin felt a chill and a low pressure descended upon her.
But as she looked into Evan's eyes, she saw something there that frightened her. There was a hardness, a coldness that she had never seen before. And when he spoke, his voice was laced with anger and betrayal.
"Charlotte told me everything," he said, his eyes narrowing. "I can't believe you would lie to me like that, Caitlin"
"Evan..."
