In the wee hours, Lin Ruoxi's dinner with her colleagues came to an end, and she headed home alone in a taxi.
Unexpectedly, the taxi broke down halfway through the journey. In this godforsaken location, with no sight of any village ahead or any shop behind her, public transport and taxis were non-existent. Even hailing a cab online was futile as no one was willing to come to this location. She could do nothing but walk home with bitter disappointment.
She hadn't walked far when she noticed a car accident at an intersection ahead — a Ferrari had crashed into a guardrail. The car's front end was severely deformed, and thick smoke was billowing out.
She hastened over and saw, under the dim streetlights, a young man in the car leaning against the seat. His face was pale and there was fresh blood on his forehead. However, he seemed calm; despite the desperate situation, he exuded a type of nobility and elegance that was hard to describe.
Truth be told, she had never seen such a handsome man before. His facial features were sharp and distinct, like they were carved. He had a pair of deep, mesmerizing eyes filled with profound sorrow, thick eyebrows, a straight nose, and sensual thin lips. His good looks were almost unreal.
There's a saying that everyone appreciates beauty, and she found herself captivated, unable to look away.
"Are you done staring?" the man, Chu Xichao, suddenly asked coldly.
"Uh..." Lin Ruoxi recovered from her trance, ducked her head, and blushed.
At that moment, Chu Xichao opened the car door, attempting to step out. However, his leg was injured, and he grimaced in pain at every move.
Lin Ruoxi quickly stepped forward to assist him. He cast a faint glance at her but made no attempt to refuse her help.
Who would have thought that this lean, tall man would be so heavy? It took all her effort to help him out of the car and to a safe spot on the road.
"Are you okay? Do you need me to call an ambulance?" Lin Ruoxi asked gently.
"No need," Chu Xichao replied decisively. He slowly fished out his phone, dialed a number, and started explaining about the accident and requested someone to pick him up.
While he was on the call, Lin Ruoxi wiped the blood off his forehead and used her shawl to bandage his wounded leg, hoping to stop the bleeding temporarily.
After Chu Xichao ended the call, Lin Ruoxi was done tending to him. She stood up and said, "Since someone is coming to pick you up, I will be on my way now."
Just as she was turning around, he caught hold of her hand, asserting in a domineering manner, "You can't leave."
"Why can't I? It's not like I was the one who hit you." Lin Ruoxi furrowed her brows, questioning without understanding.
Chu Xizhao's tone softened slightly, "Stay and chat with me for a bit."
For some reason, he was suddenly afraid of her leaving. Perhaps it was the shock from just now, or maybe he didn't want to be alone in this chilly night.
Furthermore, he found her voice soothing, offering a sense of calm and tranquillity to his internal turmoil.
Lin Ruoxi looked at Chu Xizhao, his eyes were beautiful and profound. It seemed as if a single gaze from him could unwillingly pull her into a hypnotic abyss.
Considering he had just been in a car accident, and he was a handsome man, she decided to be a good Samaritan through and through, and accompany him a bit longer.
So she sat down next to him, unsure of what to talk about with a stranger. After some thought, she said, "I'll sing you a song."
Chu Xizhao gave a nod, leaning into her and resting his head on her shoulder, he seemed like a drowning man clutching onto the only lifeline.
Being so close to a strange man felt unfamiliar to Lin Ruoxi, she hastened to free herself from his embrace, but he only held her tighter. Seeing that he showed no inappropriate behaviour, she thought he was probably in shock and needed comfort, she refrained from resisting further.
Then, she began to sing a soothing song, being professionally trained, her singing technique was top-notch.
