During the most intense heat of summer, the sun was blazing, yet the temperature deep in the woods was not that high. The dense trees obstructed the blinding sunlight, leaving a hint of moisture beneath them.
Lu Jiayia, who was lying on the ground, had some baffling memories suddenly surfacing in her mind.
A man holding an egg she gave him arrogantly said to her, "Lu Jiayia, I only treat you as a little sister, stop being so shameless and stop following me. I don't like you."
"I only treat you as my sister, there's no other intention. By the way, can I work for you for a couple of days? It's too hot and I'm feeling a bit unwell."
…
"Mm…” Lu Jiayia awakened amidst a severe headache. The strange memories that suddenly invaded her mind left her in a daze.
She blinked several times before finally seeing the environment in front of her clearly.
… Didn't she die in a car accident? Why was she suddenly in a forest that looked like a primitive jungle?
Before she had time to figure out what had happened, she discovered a black snake crawling on her arm, prompting her pupils contracted instantly.
She wanted to scream, but her throat felt choked by sand and her weak cries resulted in small more than a hoarse whisper. Even moving her body was painfully difficult.
The snake quickly lunged at her, causing Lu Jiayia to squeeze her eyes shut in fear. After waiting a while, the anticipated pain did not come.
She squinted her eyes slightly and saw the reflection of a towering man in her pupils.
The man kneeling before her had sharp, icy eyes. He wore well-worn grayish-black clothes, exposing his solid arms. His pants were cinched at the calf, and she even noticed a tear at the edge. He was wearing straw shoes on his feet.
The snake wound around his arm, coiling round and round. The muscles on the man's hand bulged as sweat trickled down the outlines of his powerful, explosive muscles.
With his large, coarse knuckles tightly clenching the critical point behind the snake’s head, his black pupils were fierce. There was a scar near his eyebrow, and his eyebrows were full of cold gloom.
Lu Jiajia stared blankly at the man before her.
After about ten seconds, the snake stilled, its body falling from the man's arm.
With an impassive face, he packed the snake into the basket on his back, then turned his gaze to the pale-faced Lu Jiajia.
The girl had delicate features, dirt smeared across her face, but her skin was fair. Her moist eyes were wide open, revealing a hint of fear and tentative curiosity. It was clear at a glance that she had been well-coddled since childhood.
The man abruptly shifted his gaze, but his expression cooled in the next second, he lifted his foot and walked away.
Using all her strength, Lu Jiajia hooked his pant leg with her fingertips and moved slightly. She opened her mouth, speaking in a weak voice, "Don't leave... help me..."
The back of the young girl's hand was resting on his lower leg.
And there came the warm touch.
Xue Yan's leg was as if stung, he looked down briefly.
However, Lu Jiajia couldn't hold on any longer, she passed out as she was gasping for air.
When Lu Jiajia woke up again, she was lying on the man's back.
His shoulders were wide, even with her lying on them, there was still plenty of room.
Lu Jiajia moved her eyes, realizing she was in a forest.
It seemed that the man, possibly to avoid any misunderstandings, was making an effort to keep her as far back as possible, as if he was afraid to touch her any more than necessary.
Because of this, she felt incredibly insecure, wobbling as if she was about to fall off.
Lu Jiajia struggled to lift her head; her hand was gently holding onto his shoulder. To stabilize her body, she moved slightly upward, weakly looping her arm around his neck.
Xue Yan immediately stopped in his tracks, his breathing slightly heated. A soft bundle was on his back, and he tensed up, uncertain about how to handle it.
He looked down at the girl's pale fist, his voice cold, "Take your hand off!"
