It should have been her day of great joy, but Su Leyao never expected that she would end up lying disheveled on the hotel bed. Before she could understand the reasons, her fiance, Zhuo Xingran, conveniently appeared and caught her in the act, accusing her of immoral behavior.
Naturally, the marriage was off.
But it wasn't until she watched Zhuo Xingran leave happily with a contract in his hands that she understood the crushing truth—her fiance had sold her!
He had exchanged her body for a contract of a development case in the south of the city.
And the man in front of her, who sent chills down her spine, was her buyer.
The man's facial features were sharp, his dark eyes dagger-like, hiding a razor edge, and his prideful nose underlipped with thin lips. His whole body exuded a chillingly dangerous aura, and what was even more striking was the wheelchair under him. A disabled man who could make her feel genuinely scared.
Their eyes met, both presenting a striking contrast. Huangfu Yuyang, although seated in a wheelchair, was smartly dressed in a suit and leather shoes, exuding a transcendent aura of dominance. In contrast, she was disheveled with her hair in shambles.
"Who are you?" Her hands tightly held the blanket, her nails turning white.
"Huangfu Yuyang." He stated his name with confidence.
"Do I have any grudges against you?" She recognized his name as the CEO of the first financial group in country E, even though she had been living under a rock, his name was well-known.
"No grudges."
"Then why did you set me up?" Su Leyao squinted her eyes, questioning him sharply.
Although Su Leyao was technically looking down on him, she always felt as if she was being looked down upon.
"You were abandoned, and I need a wife," Huangfu Yuyang admitted openly, not hiding anything.
Su Leyao laughed bitterly out of anger. What an honor it would be to be coveted by the chiefs of the four major families of the four cities. I suppose any other woman would probably be so happy that she would pass out, wouldn't she?
But she never cared for it, she never had the thought of soaring from the ground and marrying into a wealthy family. All she wanted was to earn her own living and to be an ordinary woman. She wanted to marry an ordinary man, and nurture their children together.
"Heh... Is this the despicable means by which the chief of the first financial group gained his power?" Su Le Yao's words were sharp and cutting, even his assistant Liu Bai had to slightly frown.
"This question, you can worry about it once you're married to me." The wheelchair moved forward, Huangfu Yu Yang turned his back to Su Le Yao, his voice emotionless.
"Wish for me to marry you? Maybe in the next life." Su Le Yao wrapped herself in her blanket, heading towards the door.
Liu Bai stretched out his hand to block her, "Miss Su, the Zhuo family now knows about you spending the eve of your wedding in a hotel with someone else, and walking in on you. They are heading over to the Tao family to demand an explanation."
The Tao family, is where her father married into.
Su Le Yao gnashed her teeth, her forehead veins popping, yet no words came out.
Despite her pale face, Liu Bai continued, "In order to provide you a sumptuous dowry, your father Mr. Lin and your stepmother have been having a row. What do you think the journalists will write if the Zhuo family is causing a scene now?"
"Despicable. Shameless." She said, word by word.
Years ago, her father abandoned her birth mother to marry into the Tao family and elevate his social status. Her mother took the then young Le Yao and lived a life in instability, until her mother finally succumbed to accumulated ailments when Le Yao turned eighteen, leaving her alone.
In her mother's last moments, she asked Le Yao to go back to her father. To ensure her mother's tranquility, she agreed.
Over the last five years, her father tried hard to make it up to her, for fear she would be aggrieved in the Tao family, he bought her an apartment outside. Every month, money was transferred into her account, although unused.
Upon learning about her wedding, not only did her father provide a lavish dowry, he also intended to transfer five percent of the shares in Tao Corporation that were under his name to her. This action triggered strong dissatisfaction from Tao Bi Qing.
The couple was constantly at loggerheads.
Today was supposed to be her wedding day, yet she was set up by her fiance on the eve of the wedding, using her to exchange for a contract.
Zhuo Xingran despicably resorting to counter-accusations, even staging the scene of an affair so convincingly. If the Zhuo family caused a scene at the Tao's place, not only would her father be vilified from all sides but also the center of ridicule for the Taos.
Over these five years, the Tao mother and daughter despised her to the bone marrow, ceaselessly picking faults with her. Even worse, they took every opportunity to insult her mother right in front of her. If word of this went around, even her mother may find no peace in the afterlife.
Su Leyao stood still, her face a sheet of pale white.
Huangfu Yuyang gave a glance to Liubai, who instantly understood. Opening the door, two notaries were waiting outside.
"President Huangfu, Miss Su, please fill out this form and sign it. We've processed all other procedures and will have them delivered to you", said the notary respectfully.
Su Leyao gave a bitter smile, she no longer needed to visit the civil affairs bureau. Reluctant as she might, she had no choice but to comply.
