The hospital was filled with the scent of disinfection.

With the lab results in her hands, Bethan Chaney sprinted out of the doctor's office with excitement. Her phone rang right as she was going to make a call. "Bethan, is everything okay between you and Ewing?" her uncle said as

"We're good. How come you asked?"

I've heard that the day before yesterday, Ewing brought a pregnant woman in for a prenatal checkup.

You believe Ewing has a kept woman?" Bethan retorted as she started to giggle.

"Yes!"

"Not to worry. Ewing is the very last man on earth to act in such a way."

Bethan contacted Ewing Kirby after hanging up with her uncle. The phone rang for a while before he finally picked it up. "I have a lot on my plate. If it's not important, don't phone and disturb me! That concludes the matter for the time being."

Before Bethan could respond, he abruptly ended the call with a cold, impersonal tone. The test results were being held onto by Bethan, who felt as though her raging ardor had been abruptly put on hold.

Ewing has treated her gently ever since their marriage three years ago. But suddenly, there was a sudden shift in his demeanor; he was no longer just frigid; even when receiving her call, he was impatient. This left her wondering what had brought on such a sudden change in him.

Bethan turned, her thoughts taking over, and a figure appeared in front of her. A soft voice called out, "Sis!"

Bethan noticed Rowan Kay walking alongside a middle-aged woman when she turned around.

Rowan, who was the mistress's daughter, caused Bethan to frown. She replied bitterly, with a look of disdain on her face "Watch what you say. My mum has never had any children other than me."

Rowan smiled and said kindly, "Bethan, are you here for your infertility check up again? " rather than being upset by her response.

"It's not your concern."

Why am I at the pregnancy check-up area, aren't you going to ask me? Bethan was provoked by Rowan's question and raised eyebrow. I'm carrying Ewing's child, she chuckled and declared.

After she mentioned this, Bethan was the first to notice her modest pregnancy bump. Rowan had always made it clear that she had feelings for Ewing and would look for opportunities to get together with him before he married Bethan. Are you out of your mind? Bethan only scoffed in response.

"You don't trust me? Check out this, though!"

After that, Rowan flashed Bethan her check-up report, and when she saw the report's familiar handwriting, Bethan's expression immediately transformed. When she noticed Ewing's autograph, she couldn't believe her eyes.

"Four months ago, I spent the evening with him. He worked all night and was such a beast. Since then, I had a pregnancy "Rowan declared while beaming with pride. "He really likes this kid and wanted me to keep him. Once my child is born, you may retire."

"You b*tch!" Rowan was smacked across the face by Bethan as she yelled and quivered in wrath. Rowan collapsed to the ground abruptly, as if she had expected it. "Ouch, my stomach!" she exclaimed.

Rowan merely received a slap to the face from Bethan, but as soon as she hit the ground, her pants started to leak blood. Bethan was shocked and had a hard time believing what had just occurred.

Rowan was taken right away to the emergency department by the medical team. Bethan also followed her since she was afraid to leave the situation.

It had been a while since Bethan had been waiting outside the chamber when she heard footsteps and looked up to see her mother-in-law, Gwen Witt. Gwen asked, glaring angrily at Bethan: "What is going on? Rowan arrived in the emergency room for what reason?"

"Miss Chaney pushed her, but Mrs. Kirby did. The Rowan's companion, a middle-aged lady, responded.

"You scumbag! Even though you are a barren tree, you simply couldn't stand to see others succeed where you have fallen short. Gwen slapped her in the face while screaming. Gwen was ruthless with her strike because she had never liked Bethan, and Bethan's face immediately started to swell.

She had earlier assumed Rowan was lying, but Gwen's attitude clarified everything.

Bethan's heart began to fill with a wave of despair that was so oppressive that she almost fainted. However, a nurse came out to tell them that Rowan had lost her baby at that very time as the operating room door opened.

When she heard this, Gwen snapped into action and dashed over to grab Bethan's hair before she could writhe and kick her.

Due to the brutal beatings, Bethan rapidly went unconscious.

She opened her eyes to a sea of white when she eventually came to. She attempted to get up, but her body hurt so bad she had to lean against the headboard of her bed to get some air. But just then, the entrance to her ward opened, and a man wearing a pair of glasses with a gold rim entered.

“Good day, Miss Chaney. I am Mr. Kirby's attorney.”

"Attorney?" Bethan said again while gazing in disbelief at the man in front of her.

"Yes, I am the private attorney for Mr. Kirby. I was given the responsibility of handling his divorce with you by his confidence."

"Divorce? Ewing wants to split up with me." Bethan said it again, finding it hard to trust what she had just heard. The attorney approached her bed and presented her with a document. "This is a divorce settlement. Please take the time to read it."

Bethan's hands started to tremble. She had never imagined that Ewing would ever genuinely be married to someone else. She glared at the divorce attorney without reading the divorce paperwork and commanded, "Bring Ewing to see me, please! He must tell me in person, please!"

"Kirby is incredibly busy. He is pressed for time."

He's busy and has no time, right? Bethan grinned and pondered when they had grown so cold toward one another that he could not even afford to set aside some time to meet her.

She closed her eyes and reached for the bedside table phone, dialing Eric's number, but she was unable to connect with him.

"How did Ewing and I get here? A divorce and an affair "She had a thought.

The attorney, who was still awaiting her response, pleaded with her, "Miss Chaney, would you kindly review the contract? I'm quite busy!"

The attorney's attitude made it clear that he would not accept "no" as a response. Throughout Bethan's three-year marriage to Ewing, everyone had been respectful to her. The attorney was obviously following Ewing's directions given how icy and severe he was now.

Holding up the divorce decree, Bethan took a quick look at the section on property division. All of the property did not form part of the assets that would be shared in the event of their divorce because it belonged to Ewing prior to their union. Immediately, Bethan started crying.

He once claimed that she was everything to him and that he owed her everything. Within the first three years of their marriage, he, however, already lost his love for her. If he was finally showing his true colors, she questioned.

Finally, it started to dawn on her that Ewing had been keeping a mistress behind her back, even having the mistress have a child.

I guess it's time for a fruitless tree like me to go, reflected Bethan glumly. Bethan looked up at the lawyer, who had been staring at her the entire time, and said, "Give me a pen!" without continuing to read the agreement.

The attorney remarked, "Mr. Kirby said that you can't take any of the jewelry that he bought for you," before opening his briefcase and handing Bethan a pen.

For a while, Bethan stood motionless, staring blankly at the area in front of her. She hesitantly said, "Sure," just as the lawyer was about to confront her on this.

She quickly signed the divorce papers after quickly picking up the pen.

After giving the signed contract a short glance, the attorney turned and walked away.

The window of a posh Aston Martin that had just come into the hospital's parking lot scrolled down to display the face of an unrivaledly attractive man. Quickly approaching the car, the lawyer announced respectfully, "Mr. Kirby, Madam has signed it!"

“Did she sign it?” The man spoke slowly and cast an inscrutable glance at the lawyer's face.

When the attorney noticed how depressed the man appeared, his heart began to race. Despite wanting to say anything, he was at a loss for words. Then he turned to look up at the pitch-black night sky. He finally blurted out, "Let's go!" after some time.
