The night was deep.
Qiao Yimo had just finished taking a bath, her slender fingers fastening her silk lingerie, and walked over to the bed, picked up the cell phone on the bedside table and glanced at it.
Quarter past midnight.
Fu Sinian, he probably wouldn't come back, would he?
She laid down flat, closing her eyes, her fingertips gently stroking her lower abdomen, feeling a mix of joy, excitement, and trepidation.
The doctor's words from the daytime kept ringing in her mind --
"The test report is out, the baby is less than 2 months old, the embryo isn't stable yet, are you planning to keep it or abort it?"
She didn't dare to give the doctor a firm answer, because, she was not quite sure herself.
Although she was very much looking forward to the joy of being a mother for the first time.
This is her first child, married to Fu Sinian for over a year, finally got pregnant after a lot of trials and tribulations.
It was also the only bond between them, apart from that marriage certificate.
...
The bedroom was lit with a dim sleep lamp. Qiao Yimo was dazed and half-asleep as she heard the sound of the door opening from the entrance hall.
A moment later, a large figure leaned over her, a pair of cold hands felt underneath the quilt, stroking all the way, lifting her nightgown.
The man's fingertips were cold, gradually waking her up.
Fu Sinyan slid his hand up her thigh, spreading her legs apart. His motion was slow, patient and almost teasing, intentionally pushing her to the brink.
"Fu..." She felt something untoward about to happen, but before she could utter another word, his lips claimed hers, silencing her protests.
Fu Sinyan's kiss wasn't domineering, but rather cool, like the rest of him. It held a hint of mint taste.
He seemed to grow more aroused, intensifying his touch. His other hand was busy with her lace panties.
Qiao Yimo felt a chill run down her body. She lifted her hand to stop him, but said, "Sinyan... not now!"
The doctor had warned her not to have sex for at least the first three months after she found out she was pregnant.
Fu Sinyan, who had been poised to enter her, stopped abruptly.
In the pitch-black room, he stared at her with deep, inscrutable eyes, the waves of emotion in them unreadable.
"What's wrong?" His voice was gruff, with a hint of dissatisfaction.
No man would take kindly to being interrupted in the heat of the moment.
Moreover, he was Fu Sinyan, the eldest son of the Fu family, the man most desired and courted by all women in the city.
Qiao Yimo didn't dare to break the pregnancy news to Fu Sinyan. Swallowing her dry throat, she quietly told him a white lie, "I... I felt unwell today, so I had a check-up at the hospital..."
In the silent atmosphere, their breaths were the only sounds echoing.
Qiao Yimo was extremely nervous, couldn't dare to look into the eyes of Fu Sinyan. But she knew he was waiting for her next words.
She stuttered, "The doctor... said I have a mild gynecological problem, so for now... I shouldn't... you know..."
'What she was going to say', even if not explicitly stated, Fu Siyear was aware of her intended words.
His dark cold gaze lingered over her uneasy facial expression, seemingly weighing the truthfulness of her statement.
Qiao Yimo knew all too well that Fu Siyear was not a man who could be easily fooled. Sooner or later, he would find out about her visit to the gynecologist today, might as well play along...
She referred to her 'pregnancy' merely as a 'gynecological condition'.
Fu Siyear, being a man with a high degree of cleanliness, would probably avoid any intimacy with her under such circumstances.
Her lower body, still pressed against his solidity, made Qiao Yimo so nervous she could hardly breathe.
She was aware that he was ready to take action, but, she really couldn't...
"I'm sorry…" She muttered, pursing her lips.
Fu Siyear remained silent for a moment, not responding, just staring at her. Suddenly, his heavy body turned over and fell, like a prancing cheetah losing its wildness on the grassland.
With a 'click' sound, he turned off the bedside lamp, then covered her with the comforter, ordering in a commanding tone.
"Sleep!"
