Bang! Bang!
Two shots.
A hole had been blasted into Gu Rou's chest, her blood poured out like it was free of charge.
A trace of blood trickled down the corner of her mouth as she stared at the woman holding the gun, pointing it at her own head. “Hong Xiu, I am genuinely happy to die by my own little sister's hands, I have no regrets.”
“Gu Rou, I can't stand your pitying expression.” Gu Hongxiu replied coldly, “No wonder they said you were unfit to be an assassin. You are simply too merciful."
Gu Rou smiled faintly. Her smile was pale and breathtakingly beautiful. "You're right."
Suddenly, her eyes flashed sharply, and a dagger mysteriously appeared in her hand.
Before Gu Hongxiu could react, the dagger had cut across her throat.
Blood gushed out, blocking Gu Hongxiu's trachea. She was unable to breathe, and quickly suffocated.
Clang!
The dagger from Gu Rou's hand dropped to the ground. She fell into the pool of blood.
She looked at Gu Hongxiu's body which had already stopped twitching, grinned coldly, and slowly closed her eyes.
---
The noisy chattering in her ears was driving Gu Rou crazy.
Blinking open her eyes, she saw an old woman standing in front of herself, eyes blurred with tears.
She blurted out, "Grandma Sun, what's happening outside?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she herself was stunned for a moment, and a flood of chaotic memories rushed back into her mind.
A faint headache gnawed at her.
"Miss, you're awake" Gu Rou nodded and asked, "Why is it so noisy outside?"
"Old Mr. Han, who took us in, his silly granddaughter got jilted, and now the groom's family wants their betrothal gift back," Grandma Sun said helplessly.
Gu Rou furrowed her brow, "What might be the problem?"
Grandma Sun swept a glance around the whole room, "This household is living bare-bones, what do they have to give back, and to add insult to injury, the other side wants them to return threefold."
Upon reflection, Gu Rou thought of the family's kindness when they took her in, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing. She got up, "Grandma Sun, help me to go outside and take a look."
"Miss, you were rescued from the water by that silly girl from Old Han's house, and you're body still hasn't recovered. You shouldn't go out in this weather," Grandma Sun worriedly warned her, trying to prevent her from leaving.
"I'll know my own limits. Do we still have money?" Gu Rou asked again.
Upon mention of money, Grandma Sun got teary," We didn't have much money when we left your grandmother's house. After you fell into the water, that money was washed away."
Gu Rou paused, no wonder Grandma Sun appeared to have her hands tied.
She too was kind-hearted and wouldn't watch if she had money on her.
"It's all right," Gu Rou consoled her, "Let's go take a look first. There's always a solution."
Grandma Sun nodded, and with her support, Gu Rou walked into the living room.
A few people sat there in the main room, all taken aback as Gu Ruo stepped out.
Old man Han stood up even more abruptly, "Miss, you are awake."
Gu Ruo gave a faint smile, "No need to be so formal, Elder Han. Silly girl saved me, and you took us in, for which we are truly grateful."
Old man Han responded with a slight smile, "No need for pleasantries, miss. Just feel at home."
As for the silly girl, Gu Ruo then spotted a girl standing to the side, her hair done in pigtails, and wearing a light red padded jacket.
She appeared to be around eleven or twelve, with an oval face, large eyes, the pupils and whites clearly visible, yet lacking something in her gaze.
Despite this, Gu Ruo was taken aback again, remembering Hongxu, who she had relied on since childhood, but who wanted to kill her in the end.
There was a complex feeling boiling inside her.
"Enough with your chatting, sort out our issue first!" Chen's daughter-in-law said in a peeved tone.
Gu Ruo didn't even glance at her, addressing old man Han instead, "Elder Han, we seem to have guests. I initially didn't want to interfere but considering that Silly Girl saved my life, and we became sworn sisters, I want to consider her as my sister. What do you think?"
