"Squeak."
A speeding taxi came to a sudden halt in front of a temple.
"No need to look for it anymore!"
Following this voice, a young man pulled open the car door and dashed towards the temple. However, in the blink of an eye, the young man disappeared.
Were it not for the wad of cash in his hand, the taxi driver might have found it hard to believe that it had really happened.
The man who just got out of the cab, Ye Bin, didn't halt his steps. He traversed through the main hall of the temple and then bolted towards the back hills. On the mountain path, only his fleeting figure could be seen.
At the same time yesterday, Ye Bin who was still involved in the vicious acts of murder and robbery, suddenly received a call from his martial uncle saying that his master was on his deathbed. He immediately took the fastest plane home. Now close to home, Ye Bin just hoped that his master could hold on a little longer, even if it's just to see him one last time.
However, the sprinting Ye Bin suddenly stopped in his tracks, as he felt a strong murderous intent.
Ye Bin moved quickly, retreating swiftly before releasing a punch with flames flickering around his fist. The punch was powerful and full of momentum.
With a "bang", the person who ambushed him countered his punch. Ye Bin steadied himself after being pushed five steps backwards. The one who attacked him was a bald and chubby monk who stabilized himself after retreating just one step.
"Not bad, you were able to counterattack even with my surprise attack. You only retreated five steps this time, a clear improvement in your skills over the past three years. It's a shame that I was pushed back a step." The fat monk laughed as he spoke - he seemed to be around fifty years old.
"Master Non-restraint, how is Master doing?" Rather than responding to Master Non-restraint’s mockery, Ye Bin asked the question that was distressing him.
"He's fine. He's gone for a pilgrimage,” Non-restraint laughed.
"Then why would you call me and say that Master is dying?" Ye Bin asked, widening his eyes in shock.
"Three years, and you never thought to come and visit us two old men. Is the situation in Africa really that pleasant? Look at what you have become, you're almost turning into a black ghost." Master Non-restraint looked at Ye Bin's sun-burnt face, shaking his head and then walking off.
Ye Bin could only follow wordlessly, swiftly arriving at a wooden house next to a small stream.
Ye Bin felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity upon arrival. Beside the wooden house was a pool of stream water, where he used to take a dip when it was hot. There were quite a few memories along the way, but he was in utter shock as soon as he entered the small wooden house.
Was this the place where he used to stay? What had it become now? All home appliances were fully equipped, even a computer was set up. Every type of equipment that a house should have was present here. What left Ye Bin speechless in particular, was the exclusive photo album of Ms. Sora Aoi displayed on the computer screen.
"I think I know why my master left to travel around. It must be your antic activities that he couldn't stand, so he left to find some peace." Ye Bin stated confidently. This was the only way to make sense of everything.
"Of course not," Non-restraint denied, "My master supported all these initially. We would excitingly watch Hollywood blockbusters whenever we were free. He just didn’t enjoy watching Japanese movies, so due to our disagreements, he left for cultivation." Non-restraint confessed, without any attempt to hide the truth.
"Master Non-restraint, you've gone too far. You're a monk, yet you're watching Japanese movies. This is something I can't accept," Ye Bin complained with helplessness.
"Look, what does the saying go? Cultivation isn’t about suppressing yourself all the time, but about deeply experiencing life, like I do. I can watch a complete Japanese movie all night, and nothing happens to me the next day. This is the highest realm of self-restraint," Non-restraint responded in his defense.
"Okay, but what's the deal with these bottles of liquor? I also smell the scent of dog meat," Ye Bin sniffed and inquired.
"Ah, you found out. I knew you were coming back, so I made a pot of dog soup, and it’s been simmering for one day. I also specially prepared a bottle of vintage wine aged for thirty years," Non-restraint said with a smile.
"Master Non-restraint, who gave you this Dharma name?" Ye Bin asked helplessly. This monk who indulges in wine and meat, and even watches Japanese movies, truly restrains nothing.
"This shows the far-sightedness of my master. He might have predicted this day, hence he gave me such a Dharma name. However, this name really suits me," Non-restraint had no self-awareness at all and he took another sip of wine as he continued speaking.
Ye Bin didn't know what to say and could only sigh.
"Let’s not over discuss this. I have something else to talk to you about later. You smell stinky and dirty now, go clean up quickly," Non-restraint gestured and said.
Without making any comment, Ye Bin walked out. Outside, Ye Bin's figure flashed, and then he landed directly into the nearby pool.
In a pond, Ye Bin started to wash himself in the water. After about ten minutes, Ye Bin climbed out of the pond. Right then, Ye Bin was definitely a handsome guy, especially his alluring smirk; he was definitely a lady killer.
With wet clothes clinging to his body, Ye Bin began to walk towards the small log cabin. But as he did, steam began to rise from his clothes. By the time he made it to the cabin, his clothes were completely dry.
"Elder, why did you call me back?" Ye Bin asked as he sat down at the table where dog meat had been served, and Elder Bu Jie was pouring wine.
"Well, there is something I didn't tell you before, that I can't avoid telling you now, hence why I urgently summoned you," Elder Bu Jie said between bites of dog meat.
"What is so important that you had to trick me into coming back?" Ye Bin asked, speechless. If there was something urgent, he would have come back without needing to be tricked.
"I just wanted to be safe. What if you heard something and decided to disappear? Where would I find you then?" Elder Bu Jie replied, obviously disgruntled.
"Go ahead, what is it?" Ye Bin asked, ready to make a quick exit at the first sign of trouble.
"Your master has an old friend who he's known for decades, and his granddaughter has contracted an incurable disease. Your master has gone out to find medicinal herbs for her, and while he is gone, you are to care for her and ensure her condition doesn't worsen. In addition, you have to ensure her safety," Elder Bu Jie explained with a smile.
"Is that all? There doesn't seem to be a need to trick me into coming back. Is there something else you aren't telling me?" Ye Bin asked, puzzled.
"Additionally, this girl is your betrothed." Elder Bu Jie said, looking at Ye Bin.
"What! Betrothed? That's not funny at all." Ye Bin retorted.
"She is indeed your betrothed. Twenty years ago, your master made this betrothal agreement for you, but you were too young, so we never told you. Now it is time to tell you," Elder Bu Jie sighed.
"I am going back to Africa. This has nothing to do with me," Ye Bin directly replied, ready to make a swift exit.
